Pre-season continued for the 4ths at Court Lane as we welcomed Sheldon Marlborough who won the toss and elected to bat. The opening pair of S. Lumb (2-26) and R. Ellis (2-17) got us going nicely and were well backed up by the other bowlers although we did manage to extend their innings by not taking a few chances in the field. S. Tahir (1-23) and A. Carey (3-13) along with 2 run outs saw us bowl out Sheldon with only an over to spare.
Our response started off solid if unspectacular with a 50 run partnership between L. Gillam (14) and J. Pigott (27) which took us to nearly the halfway point in a great position without the loss of a wicket although we were a little bit behind the run rate at that point. 3 wickets in more or less quick succession didn’t derail the chase and the run rate became completely irrelevant as C. Shackleford (52no) found the boundary with ease backed up by his brother Michael (12no) and the runs flowed quickly as we reached our target bang on 30 overs. 2 wins for the 4ths as we start our league campaign next week!
