Walmley 3rds played home to Pickwick 1sts and were put into bat after losing the toss. We got off to a slow and shaky start. However, a mature and careful innings of 97* from James Bristow helped us reach a total of 183 off our 45 overs.
The second innings began with some outstanding bowling from youngsters Reiss Chager and Armani Anwar taking 2 wickets a piece. Reiss Chager only going for 16 runs off his 10 overs. Alex Carey chipped in with a couple wickets himself in the middle of the innings but the highlight of this innings was the incredible fielding from the young side! The strong fielding performance and some incredible catches from Harry Wyatt from behind the stumps and Armani Anwar helped Walmley apply a lot of pressure on the batsman who needed a run rate of just above 7 an over in the last few overs.
Unfortunately, there were a couple overs which were expensive which helped Pickwick knock off the score in the final over. Was a very close game, and a cracking performance both with bat and ball from the entire team.
A lot of positives to take away from this match and hopefully we’ll see a different result in the return fixture later on in the season.
