Earlswood 2nds vs Walmley 3rds
Match Date: 6th July 2019
Type: Warwickshire County Cricket League Division 6
Location: Watery Lane
Report: Tariq Mohammed
After winning the toss Walmley decided to field first. After the first wicket, the opposition batted well with two of their top orders scoring very good calculated half centuries. J.Thorne (50) and K.Avery (75) were the main contributors with the bat for Earlswood.
Walmley were a bit slack in the field, dropping a few very important chances and could not capitalise on putting any sort of pressure on Earlswood as they finished with 228 in their 46 overs. Rob Ellis was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 28 of his 10 overs.
Rayyan Mohammed and Sinel Gunarathne grabbed 1 wicket each.
In reply Walmley were on course with a very formidable start with Atif Khalil and Yusuf Khalil batting brilliantly to give a start of 53 for 1 in 13 overs.
After losing Atif for a very good 26, two quick wickets fell cheaply. Tariq Mohammed joined young Yusuf at the crease and steadied the game knowing a big task was ahead to cross the line. Just before drinks losing Yusuf for 28 was a real disaster as he was batting fluently as an opener.
Tariq Mohammed (50) took the score to 140 and losing wickets didn’t help Walmley to get back in the game with any hope.
After all with such a young side, our boys have shown some great resilience against the most of opposition we have played so far. Walmley were 51 runs short of the target and lost the game.
It’s important to keep the positive mindset as lot of cricket is still left for us to achieve some win behind us.
Onto the next week as we host against Corley CC at Court lane.
