4ths Claim Victory after Delayed Start

Walmley 4ths vs Ward End Unity 2nds
Match Date: Saturday 6th July 2019
Type: Warwickshire County Cricket League Division 11 West
Location: Court Lane
Report: Mo Salman, captain

The 4ths hosted Ward End Unity 2nds XI at Court Lane. With the rain delaying the start, the game was reduced to 34 overs each side. Having won the toss we elected to field first. The Ward End Unity batsmen got off to a good start with a 95 run opening partnership despite tight lines being bowled by our opening bowlers. But Luke Gillam (1 for 45) finally managed to get the breakthrough. Then Masud Ahmed (1 for 37) knocked off the other opening batsmen which lead to a crumble in their middle order thanks to Alex Carey’s (3 for 16) superb spell. Ward End Unity ended on 153 off their 34 overs as a result of some superb fielding from the lads. Special mention to Yousuf Akbar (age 12) who fielded superbly throughout the game.

We opened our batting with John Pigott (24) and Jack Patel (26) who got us off to a brilliant start going at almost 5 an over. In came number 3 Umair Choudhry who played a splendid knock of 48 before I blocked out the rest of an over with only 5 runs to win to allow him to reach his 50, only for him to unfortunately get dismissed the very next ball 2 runs short of his half century!

In came Yousef Akbar to hit the winning runs in the 30th over to give Walmley the full 20 points with a 6 wicket victory which now takes Walmley 4ths into joint 3rd place in the league.

Great overall performance yet again by the team.
