So the first league match for the 4ths finally arrived after some strong performances in pre-season and a team that has remained almost intact across the matches. A very green and soft wicket welcomed us at Thimblemill so of course, I didn’t win the toss and we were duly put into bat which unsurprisingly turned out to be very tough going and at one point looked to be heading for a short innings but for a fantastic last wicket stand between C. Mountney and M. Shackleford (24no from 79 balls) that endured the final 13 overs of the innings with Corey falling on the last ball as we finished on 104.
The key was bowling full as anything short sat up to be hit and anything full did everything which ultimately, Thimblemill did better than us as we just couldn’t keep hitting a consistent length from our bowlers to really trouble them. Wickets were in short supply as a result with only R. Majithia (1) and S. Tahir (2-26 off 7) getting the breakthroughs, Thimblemill knocking the runs off in 22 overs.
