5NW Pulls off a Stunning Win vs Handsworth 3rds

Walmley travelled to Handsworth for a return fixture from last week where we were beaten comprehensively at home. Handsworth skipper won the toss and decided to field first. With some serious uneven bounce off the pitch it was always going to be difficult pitch to bat on. Callum Mulholland (51) and Rishi Dadwal (6) opened batting for Walmley and Rishi fell when the score was 22. Amit Chudasama (17) joined Callum who put up a lovely partnership of 67 for the second wicket before Amit was given out LBW. Walmley started losing wickets at regular intervals from this point and Handsworth bowling very tight lines. Yohan (10) and Rajesh Dadwal (13) are the other batters to score over 10. Walmley eventually bowled out in the 41st over for 151 which we felt around 20 runs under par.

Kian Eratne (5 overs for 28 runs) and Ryan opened bowling for Walmley. Handsworth started strong with openers putting up a 60 run partnership in just 12 overs. We desperately needed to slow down their run rate at this point. Bowling change to bring Callum and Yohan worked where Callum took a lovely caught and bowl to remove their opener. We started bowling extremely tight lines giving nothing away for their batters with Yohan bowling 10 overs for 12 runs and Callum with a spectacular spell by taking 4 wickets for 23 runs in 10 overs. Vraj Shah took 2 important wickets including their hard hitting skipper with a spell of 4 wickets for 21 runs in 4 overs.

At this stage Handsworth needed just 8 runs to win in 15 overs with 3 wickets in hand. With Yohan and Callum bowled out all their overs I turned to Ryan Delport with bringing all fielders in and a slip in place.

Miracles do happen… Ryan bowled 3 dot balls in 36th over to start with. 4th ball batsman went for a big hit only to be caught brilliantly at mid off by Amit. 5th ball edge to slip pretty much the only ball went in that way throughout the whole game where Raj Dadwal was ready and held it with perfection. Ryan bowled a superb final ball of the over to bowl their last man out and finished the game with a stunning hatrick.

A stunning comeback to win against a very strong opposition. Credit to each player for their work ethic in the field with lots of energy and friendly banter throughout their innings lead by Vraj. Let’s keep up the good work and take the fighting spirit to next weekend.
