5ths West vs Coleshill 2nds
Match Date: 6th July 2019
Type: Warwickshire County Cricket League Division 13 West
Report: Luke Marshall, captain
After a week of brilliant sunshine, a deluge of rain was all but inevitable come Saturday afternoon and without covers at Hollyfields, the wicket got a good 30 minute soak. Upon winning the toss and putting them into bat, things looked fantastic for us as we had them 25-6 on a wicket that was not very friendly to batsman at all. A brief riposte from 2 stubborn batsmen brought their total towards the 100 mark but once we managed to break that, the lower order didn’t take too long to get rid of. Another excellent performance with the ball from Zain Ali (4-7) was well supported by Reiss Chagar (3-9) and Luke Marshall (3-10). Coleshill all out for 86 within 35 overs.
Knowing it was going to be tough going to get the runs with a long outfield and a wet ball, we started slowly. Very slowly. And soon we found ourselves not much better off with us 26–5 and struggling badly. The runs were proving a lot harder to find than anticipated and the slowness of the pitch and the bowlers made it a tough place to bat. We needed a middle order partnership just as they had found, and in Zain Ali (30) we had one. First Asif Khan held with him before Dave Morley and Ryan Delport stuck around long enough for Zain to steadily accumulate the runs and give us hope of reaching our target. Unfortunately, one big hit too many cost him and we fell an agonising 12 runs short of the win. Tough loss to take but in the circumstances, a good game all round.
