On a sunny Sunday morning, in the middle of massive farms, Walmley bounced back off a disappointment on Monday to complete a fantastic victory over home side Draycott and Hanbury CC. A strong 5th wicket partnership between Josh and recently-joined-the-club Luke took the side to a very good 126. Our U11 and U12 players got the job done with the ball with Connor Kuhn starring with 3 wickets.
Michael Shackleford and Zebedee Batchelor gave the team a good start with a 33-run stand. Zeb departed courtesy of a superb catch by Luke Taylor after scoring 4 and Michael followed soon after getting 20 runs. Aditya Muthukumar was run-out at the striker’s end by a direct hit by Ben Kirwan. Will Priddey played a patient 11 off 21 and then followed the highlight of the day. Classmates Luke Douglas and Josh Chagar put on a 61-run partnership with Josh getting his high-score of 35 with him, unfortunately, being dismissed in the last over. Luke, playing just his 2nd match for Walmley, scored a mature 17. The wet outfield denied both of them boundaries but nevertheless dragged the team score to a impressive 126. Our opponents gave us a surprising 36 extras, helping us slightly boost our total.
Connor Kuhn dealt the first blow after slowing it down and getting his line and length perfect leaving Draycott 2-1. Connor returned in the 4th over to take 2 more wickets and Corey Mountney took 2 wickets with his left arm pace to leave the opposition reeling at 19-5. Two 10-run partnerships followed as keeper Michael ran out a batsman at the striker’s end and Billy Martin picked up 2 wickets. William Jenkins cleaned up the tail by taking the final 2 wickets. Wicket keeper Michael kept excellently giving away just 3 byes on a bouncy surface.
