Match Date: Thursday 16th May
Type: Warwickshire Youth Cricket League – Under 13 (Group 2)
Report: Aditya Muthukumar, U13B
The Walmley U13Bs played against a 7-man team of Aston Manor CC in this match at the Penns Lane Sports Ground. Some fantastic batting performances by Billy Bojan and Josh Chagar gave our side a competitive 109. After a quick start with the bat, our opposition collapsed to 62 all out. Walmley gained 5 points and jumped to the 2nd place in the table after Highcroft and Great Barr (8 points).
Michael Shackleford won the toss and elected to bat first on a low pitch. Schoolmates Ben Carruthers and Billy Bojan put on a 25-run partnership before Ben was caught on 5. Josh Chagar came in and struck 5 quick boundaries before he was caught after making 24 off just 16 balls – a strike rate of 150! Toby Stokes and Reuben Majithia scored 8 apiece while mainstay Billy scored a mature 30 off 41 before departing trying to up the ante at the back end of the innings. With a total of 28 extras, we posted a par-score of 109.
Their openers Aiden Howell and Carl Springer got them off to a flier with the former playing a cracker of an innings with a 35 containing 6 fours and a six before retiring on 35. The pack of dominoes just kept falling after then. After a 50-odd opening stand, the rest of the 7-man army fell for a paltry 15 odd runs with 2 back-to-back runouts by keeper Michael, and Reuben striking off his first ball. Then, the hero of the game Charlie Adkins finished the match off in style with a wicket off the final ball in his over.
In my opinion, the man of the match is Billy Bojan for playing a very good innings as opener and also cheering a desperate-for-inspiration team by putting the first nail in the coffin with an LBW.
Walmley U13Bs play Trentside CC at home on Sunday in a top-of-the-table clash of the Burton & District Youth Cricket League Under 13 Division 1 – 2019.
