Match Date: 23rd June 2019
Type: Burton & District Youth Cricket League – Under 13 Division 1
Location: Kings Bromley CC
Report: Aditya Muthukumar, U13B
A big opening partnership followed by an excellent start with the ball meant Walmley marched on in this league beating Kings Bromley by 35 runs. Walmley hadn’t played a game in this league for 2 weeks after they lost against Tutbury (they were unbeaten in this league till then). The team was brilliant and added 5 more points to their tally.
Michael Shackleford and Adi Muthukumar had a good 86-run partnership at the top. Michael scored 29 off 42 with 2 fours despite being in some pain and departed trying to up the ante. Opening for his first time for Walmley, Adi composed a good 31 off 52 and was out lbw in the 16th over. Walmley couldn’t get those quick runs required at the end yet still posted a fabulous 124-4 in 20 overs.
Reuben Majithia gave Walmley a great start with a wicket in the 1st over. Amy Carey then clung on to a great catch at point off Connor Kuhn and backed it up by looking as nonchalant as possible. Ethan Porter hit the one and only six of the match with a nicely timed clip off the legs but was dismissed 2 balls later. Kings Bromley had lost 4 wickets in 4 overs leaving them reeling at 18-4. A mini partnership was built before Adi at fine leg and keeper Michael effected a run out at the striker’s end. A solid partnership followed by Nathan Tweddle and Jacob Evans but Walmley comfortably won.
Walmley U13B end the month with a game against Highcroft and Great Barr CC on Friday at home in an attempt to avenge a loss earlier this season in the Warwickshire Youth Cricket Leagues – U13 League (Group 2) before playing Whittington CC against whom they won earlier this season at home.
