Another Difficult Week for 2nds

Saturday 8th August
Kings Heath 1sts vs Walmley 2nds

2nds played at Kings Heath and was elected to bowl first. The heat made it difficult for our bowlers to bowl a consistent line and length however, it also affected the batsmen’s attention span. As a result, 2 quick wickets coming from Jay Martin on his return (2-25) with one good slip catch from Max Southgate allowed us to stay in the game despite Kings Heath making a quick start. The spinners pulled it back for us, slowing the run rate down and gradually picking up wickets; Sinel Gunarathne, Max Southgate and Shailan Srikanthan each picking up one wicket. Another notable fielding performance from Sinel saved Walmley a good 20 runs. Kings Heath finished their innings forcing us to chase 235 of 45 overs.

Unfortunately, Walmley didn’t turn up with the bat as a quick collapse of wickets made it even harder for us to stabilise and keep on track with the run rate. Skipper Bromley managed to score 33 and starts from Lewis Hoffman, Kaash Patel and Shailan Srikanthan but wasn’t enough as we ended up 138 all out.
