You’ve probably seen Bob Greenwood behind the bar at Eldon Drive. Bob has been awarded Clubman of the Year 2018.
A Bit About Bob
Bob has never played cricket. In 1978, his job moved him down to Walmley and he moved into the house behind the scorebox. After a while, Neol Jones and Derek West invited him to the cricket club. In those days you had to be proposed and seconded to become a member. There was a notice put up on the notice board for about a month and then at the earliest convenience, the committee met and made a decision. Of course, they decided in Bob’s favour. Bob became a member and drank lots of pints of beer! Some time late he was invited to become a Vice President of the club.
In 1999 Bob took early retirement and got involved with volunteering at the club. There was a bar rota, so he did his share behind the bar, and during the day did a lot of general tidying up around the club. It was then that Bob was involved in setting up the memorial garden where the old club house once stood.
Bob was also invited to join the committee as the representative of the social membership. After a number of years doing that, he became bar chairman and has been involved in running or helping out with the bar almost ever since. At the end of 2016, Bob retired from his bar duties but then was persuaded to return to help the club out this year. Now he’s again handing over the responsibility for the bar but you’ll probably still find him there quite often.
