Wednesday 22nd July 6pm
Our Walmley U8 team was buzzing after playing their first match last Sunday and very excited for their next match against local rivals Four Oaks.
The match was played at the Tamworth Road ground on a grass wicket, using a junior hardball.
Dylan captained the side, losing the toss, Four Oaks decided to have a bat on a mild sunny evening.
Being the second game for Walmley U8, the bowling and fielding was better against an older and bigger and stronger team. The outfield was hard and fast, so the fielding needed to be tight to prevent boundaries. Four Oaks having 2 older Warwickshire players who contributed to their total of 280 along with the Extras being the top scorer. A good Bowling performance from Ariyan of 2 overs no wickets and 5 runs.
The Walmley team was still confident of this set target. After 12 overs (after the first 3 pairs of batsman) Walmley had made 240 runs with Reuben making a great contribution of 14 runs. Walmley required 40 runs of the last 4 overs with the last pair of batsman to go in. Ariyan and Dylan batting well against their strongest bowlers. After a superb batting performance from Ariyan against their Warwickshire bowler, Walmley only needed 8 runs from 3 balls. Unfortunately Ariyan got bowled and therefore -5 runs, requiring an almost impossible task of 13 runs off 2 balls, and leaving Walmley to depend on extras to try and win the match. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be and Walmley ended up getting 269.
Ariyan scoring 20 runs and Reuben 14 runs.
Walmley U8 boys are excited to be playing Walmley U10 this week, let’s hope the weather holds out.
