Walmley CSC were subject to a malicious attack in the early hours of Wednesday morning where an intruder walked into the ground and slashed the tops of all of our pitch covers rendering them useless and also slashed at the practice nets in an effort to cause us as much inconvenience and expense as possible.
An investigation is ongoing but we do not consider this to be a random act of vandalism, we suspect it to be a targeted act of hate and revenge. We do have CCTV but since the matter is in the hands of the police we can not elaborate further.
The estimated cost of the damage is approx. £2500 and we are initially having to attempt a temporary repair in order to be functional for this weekend’s cricket etc. We will then look at our options to replace the damaged, essential equipment ASAP.
Please bear with us at this time but I can assure you that the committee are working hard to deal with this and to make the security of the club a little more robust.
If there is anyone within the club that has contacts with the security system world, then please get in touch.
This also provides us with an opportunity to welcome any new prospective sponsors who would be interested in sponsoring the new covers by advertising their business on them and thus helping us offset the considerable cost – please get in touch if you can help with this.
