Walmley 3s entertained Wishaw 2s down at the court on Saturday. The toss was lost and Walmley were asked to bowl by the visitors. Early inroads from Charlie Yeates (1-32) and Duncan Waugh (1-26), along with a run out and 2 from skipper Callum Mulholland (2-40) had Wishaw struggling at 71-5 after 15 overs. Some chance hitting from their middle order bat increased their run rate significantly, but a sharp catch from Callum off the bowling of Mo Salman (3-12) saw the back of him after reaching 50. Some poor fielding throughout the innings allowed Wishaw to reach 171 all out off 37.5 overs, 30/40 runs more than they deserved.
An excellent start from Farhan Choudhry (41) who looked in great touch saw us reach 67-1 off 15 overs and we were in the driving seat. However, the usual collapse came which has been so prevalent in the 3s batting this year and we saw ourselves at 108-6 off 26 overs. Wickets continued to fall and a late rally from Callum (16) was not enough to see Walmley over the line as we were bowled out for 150, losing by 21 runs.
Hugely disappointing afternoon where poor fielding cost us the game. The old sayings go “catches win matches”. Same opposition next week with a better performance needed.
