Excited U11s reach Burton Pairs Cup Final!

Walmley U11s reach the Burton Pairs Cup Final.

Playing on the hallowed turf of Eldon Drive the ‘Whammer’s’ bowlers were delighted to find that our chairman had provided an excellent wicket that offered pace and bounce, and despite winning the toss on an overcast evening, Uttoxeter chose to bat on it.

The bowlers’ excitement about the wicket would prove to be true as Uttoxeter’s opening batting pair struggled to get going in the first 4 overs. Having scored 6 off the first two overs Umer (2-0-3-1) struck to reduce the Uttoxeter total (-8 per wicket taken in this format!) and in the following over Freddie (2-0-9-1) also struck to leave Uttoxeter struggling to trouble the scoreboard on 200-2.

The second Uttoxeter pair faired no better with the 5th over producing a sharp stumping from Aarav and a beautiful wicket that helped Raheel to produce figures of 2-0-13-2. Kanav further dented the Uttoxeter total with 2-0-11-1 with a fine caught and bowled. 204-5.

The following two Uttoxeter batting pairs faired little better despite a battling 14 not out from final batsman Ryan, with Ariyan (2-0-4-1), Daniel (3-1-6-1) and Bryan (3-0-15-2) blowing away the final batsmen aided by two sublime catches from Daniel and Umer.

Uttoxeter 201-9.

The true majesty of the pitch produced for this semi final by our chairman was apparent from the start of the Walmley innings. The fast surface stayed true and supported a terrific Walmley effort with the wood.

First pair Umer (7) and Aarav (21*) scored heavily for the loss of two wickets. 214-2

Raheel (3) and Freddie (7) saw Walmley 9 runs ahead by the halfway point having lost a further two wickets and still having much to do to consolidate their dominance in the game. 210-4

Daniel (17*) and Kanav (5*) gave Walmley a 40 run cushion prior to the final pair with some lovely strokes. 241-4

Ariyan (22*) and Bryan (0*) saw Walmley comfortably over the line for a 73 run win and a place in the Final against either Dunstall or Hilton. Walmley 273-4 at the close.

A well earned win and the excitement is building towards this team’s first ever cup final.
