4ths at home to Castle Brom 3rds
The last game of the season for the 4ths saw us welcome Castle Brom to Court Lane. Upon winning the toss, Castle Brom elected to bat on what was a great wicket to bat on. As is the somewhat of a tradition for the last game, their batting line up wasn’t exactly based on batting ability which meant fielding changes galore as we figured out what the batsman could do. Halfway stage they were 52-1 off 20 overs after some controlled bowling and very impressive figures of 6-4-4-1 from Zain Ali. They came out a bit in the 2nd half of the innings but we took wickets consistently as Shayaan Tahir (4-12), Reiss Chagar (2-14) and Luke Gillam (2-13) and a run out on the last ball of the innings meant we were set a target of 130 to win.
A slow but steady reply was constructed by openers Dhruv Malhi (12) and Calum Shackleford (45) who continued his rich vein of form with the bat as we reached the halfway stage ahead of the run rate. Luke Marshall (20) and Zain Ali (24) got us to within touching distance as we reached 118-2 but then came a collapse of 5 wickets for 2 runs as a ball change seemed to do wonders for Castle Brom. Thankfully it was nothing to worry about in the end as Abhay Misra and Shayaan Tahir saw us home with 3 wickets in hand and 10 overs to spare. Great win and fantastic way to finish off the season!
