5ths away to Four Oaks 4ths
Another trip to Prince of Wales ground for what seemed like the 10th time this season saw the 5ths batting first up after being put in by Four Oaks, although that wouldn’t have changed if I had the choice myself.
It turned out to be a sedate wicket which was very low and very slow. Patience was the order of the day and not to get pinned on the back foot.
A steady start saw us moving along nicely with the highlight of our innings being opener Calum Shackleford (55) getting his first 50 in adult cricket from what he told me and a 3rd wicket partnership of 76 with Luke Marshall (38) to really set the innings up and put a good score on the board. 40 runs in the last 5 overs from Matt Baker (20 not out) and Rob Ellis (27 not out) saw us home for 225-8 from our 45 overs.
As we took to the field after lunch we talked about not leaking any unnecessary runs to keep the pressure on the batsmen and get them to play shots they didn’t want to play, the fielding was tight and generally sharp and the bowlers hit their marks consistently which were rewarded with wickets aplenty. All the bowlers got wickets with Krish Chauhan (4-24) the pick of the bowlers. No chances were dropped with 4 catches taken in the field and a comprehensive win after 25 overs saw us bowl them out for 131.
A well deserved 94 run win from the whole team.
