First Win for U8s!

Tuesday 28th July 6pm

Local rivals Sutton CC hosted our Under 8 Walmley team who have been unlucky to be on the losing end of the last few matches.

Rectory Park was dry after the heavy rain the day before. Reuben captaining the side lost the toss and Sutton CC put Walmley into bat first. Walmley players were excited and showed no fear against an older, mature, stronger Sutton CC side. Solid batting performances from Thomas Leigh scoring 7, Captain Reuben scoring 10 and his twin brother Dylan chipping in with a useful 11. Giving Sutton CC a total of 262 to win.

Walmley were confident in defending the target. Opening bowlers bowled well but even better was the fielding with the run outs, Sutton CC trying to take advantage of our younger players. After 4 overs Sutton CC only having a positive total of 8 runs, 208. In the 5th to 8th overs of play there was everything! Runouts, bowled out, ‘Mankad’ controversy, You name it! The last pair of batsman required 32 off the last 4 overs. Bryan and Rehan held their nerve when bowling with Bryan doing a lovely runout from his own bowling to put Walmley in a comfortable position, with Sutton CC requiring 15 off the last over. Sutton CC ended up getting 9 off the last over giving them a total of 256, 6 short of the win.

Finally our first win! The Walmley U8 side was ecstatic with the win!
A fiercely competitive game which we hopefully look forward to playing a return fixture.
