Tamworth vs Water Orton

Water Orton batted first, which meant they had to face the destructive bowling of Danny Gilbert early in the evening. Last Thursday he took 2 wickets. On Monday he took a hattrick, and 4 wickets. And yesterday, Wednesday, he took yet another wicket and 5 for 32 off his 20 balls. Water Orton put on 147 for 8.

During the Tamworth innings, the wickets fell regularly so although they kept up with the required run rate. After 80 balls, Tamworth were 130-9 still needing 18 to win. Sixteen runs came off the next 10 balls when there was a big discussion between batsmen, umpires and fielders. The game continued and two wides were bowled, giving the victory to Tamworth by 1 wicket. The discussion, it transpires, was because Water Orton had been too slow in bowling their overs meaning penalty runs could be awarded to Tamworth, but they decided to play on. A strange end to an exciting, balanced match. Brookes 36 off 17, A. Tomson 24 off 12, E. Smith 26 off 15.

Tamworth 21 points, Water Orton 6 points

Walmley vs Aston Unity

Walmley won the toss and elected to bat first. Notable performances from the Walmley batsmen were Newis (39 off 15), Peter Shackleford (32 off 27), and Rob Hutchings (23 off 9) who seems to enjoy hitting sixes and fours in the direction of the spectators! Walmley put on 161 all out off 91 balls. Kumara took 3 wickets for 15 runs off 15 balls while A. Bogle was the most economic of the Unity bowlers with 2 for 5 off 15 balls. S. Bogle 2 for 10 off 5.

It really wasn’t Unity’s day as catches went to hand, batsmen were run out, and stumps were hit. Unity were all out for 52 off 68 balls. Sachin Dubb 2 for 3 off 10 balls, Michael Waugh 3 for 2 off 15, Kiefer Woods 2 for 10 off 19.

Walmley 20 points, Aston Unity 5 points
