Four Oaks Saints 4ths vs Walmley 4ths
Prince of Wales Ground
Saturday 11th July 2020
After what felt like an eternity, we finally got ourselves back on the field for the first game of the season. We won the toss and put them into bat, with a soft, slow wicket and first game rustiness hopefully coming into play.
A good start with Rob Ellis (1-16) and Luke Marshall (1-15) taking out the openers before the spinners came on to clean up the middle order. Alex Carey (3-16) and Devin Fernando (2-25) causing some real problems with their lengthy spells. A return to bowling for Michael Shackleford (2-27) and Seb Tibbins (1-1) getting the last wicket all out for 130.
Our reply started with a strong opening partnership between Henry Nevitt and Luke Gillam, who joint top scored with 24, managing to get up with the run rate very quickly as they batted through the first 10 overs. Wickets fell regularly as the slowness of the pitch was causing some early shots and easy catches for the opposition. Impressive performances from some of our young batters where Greg Rushton (17) spent a good amount of time in the middle and Michael Shackleford (15) playing some solid strokes. A quick fire 24 not out from Luke Marshall put us within touching distance but it took until the final wicket to get over the line with a leg bye. Won by 1 wicket.
