Match Date: Wednesday 22nd May 2019
League: Warwickshire Youth Cricket Leagues – Girls U13 Hardball 2019
Ground: Prince of Wales Ground, Tamworth Road
Walmley girls under 13s played their 1st Warwickshire league game this evening at local friendly rivals Four Oaks Saints.
Milly Freeman (Walmley) won the toss and elected to bowl.
Amy Carey came out to bowl and took 2 wickets for 2 in the first over. Then the wickets dried up until the very last over (Thara taking the last wicket in the final over). Four Oaks batted brilliantly and piled on the runs. Their final total was 295-3 and they deserved the high score.
Walmley’s opening pair were given instructions to not lose their wicket and not worry about scoring many runs. Ellie Phillips and Libby Snowdon walked off with 33 runs without loss. A great start! The next pair struggled against top quality bowling from Rhiannon, Izzy Curry and Amelia who took 4 wickets. They were the last wickets to fall. 238-4.
The penultimate pair came on and pushed us to 275-4 with Aqsa scoring 21 in the pair.
The final pair needed 21 runs to win from 4 overs. Thara and Milly both played sensibly and got the target in the 14th over. They held their nerve and pushed the final score onto 318-4.
Tonight’s game was a great advertisement for girls cricket played in a great spirit by 2 amazing teams. Well done Walmley and Four Oaks.
