Nether Whitacre 3rds v Walmley 5ths
Saturday 18th July
Walmley won the toss and decided to field. Fielding probably one of the strongest 5th teams in recent years expectations were high from the captain, and the team didn’t disappoint. Walmley’s bowling and fielding was superb from the outset (although a rusty wicket keeper contributed 20 byes to the home team’s score). Accurate bowling on a slow and low pitch, restricted the home side to 137-7 from their 45 overs, all 6 bowlers contributing with Rid Asselman 17-4 the stand out, but supported superbly by Krish Chauhan’s 8 Overs for 8 runs, and wickets for Farhan (2), Michael Shackleford (1). Ollie Williams had 2 tough chances dropped on his bowling whilst it was great to have Shayaan Tahir back bowling after a broken finger.
On the batting side, it was a fantastic show as Umair Choudhry made the best of a couple of early lifelines, to score 91 no, supported along the way by Farhan Choudhry and Henry Nevitt before an 11 over / 84 run partnership with Calum Shackleford (30 no) sealed the win inside 24 overs.
Walmley’s fielding performance was outstanding, restricting Nether Whitacre to just 8 boundaries by putting bodies on the line, quick throws and backing up in particular contributed to restricting the score line. A fantastic team display punctuated with two standout performances from Rid and Umair and an early finish for everyone.
