Hall and de Silva to the rescue, as the first team claim all 24 points

Saturday 17th April, John Findlay Memorial Ground

The first team started with a 24 point win at home to Rugby.

Walmley lost the toss and were asked to bat first. After losing opener Callum Herron, the young duo of Sinel Gunarathne (23) and Yusuf Khalil (16) steadied the ship. Regular loss of wickets put Walmley in trouble. At 127 for 9 Walmley were looking at a very under par score. However Dinuk de Silva (11 not out) and Jamie Hall (51 not out off 24 balls) had other ideas. They shared in an unbeaten stand of 75 for the last wicket. Dinuk rotating the strike allowed Jamie Hall to smash the ball to all parts of the ground, hitting 5 fours and 4 sixes. Walmley finished on 192 for 9.

In reply Jamie Hall, full of confidence, got two early wickets, and Jon Newis, going for only 9 in his 11 overs, kept the run rate down. The introduction of Dinuk de Silva proved to be the key change, taking 6 wickets for 24 and leading Walmley to victory.

Walmley visit Bedworth next week for Round 2.
