The Sunday 3rds had a rare opportunity to play at the main ground and welcomed Newdigate for a friendly in glorious sunshine. We had a few new faces turning out for their first adult game or returning after years in the wilderness.
Opting to bat, Newdigate were helped by some less than accurate bowling and the scoreboard did not look pretty very early on. A bowling change was needed and A. Carey (5-29) got the game going for us with instant wickets and grabbed his first 5-fer of the season. First wickets for L. Wilson and A. Nahal as well as one for A. Nasar looked to put us back on track but 2 stubborn batsmen put paid to us bowling them out and 238 was the score at the break.
A tough ask to chase down with D. Clough (21) deciding to go after the run rate from ball one, Y. Akbar (47) taking the measured approach and nearly being rewarded with half century before a great partnership late in the innings from A. Nahal (44) and A. Carey (31) took us late into the day and ensured a stalemate but a good (and long) game of cricket.
