Hattrick for Ryan as Colron U7s Improve Week on Week

Colron U7s vs Holly Lane Utd U7s

25 October 2020 @ Walmley

First Half

A return to winning ways for the boys this week on a lovely sunny morning at Walmley following the heavy rain of the night before. Both teams played some nice football despite the heavy conditions underfoot, with a tight first half after an early goal by Archie was cancelled out by an absolute thunderbolt free kick from Holly Lane’s danger man. Defences stayed on top for much of the half with Sawyer and Jayden in excellent form at the back, even breaking forward when possible, and as ever supported by some fabulous brave goalkeeping from Jamal. Meanwhile our dangerous attacking pair of Ryan & Archie were starting to cause problems for the opposition until the pressure finally told by way of a penalty superbly tucked away by Ryan just on the halftime whistle to go in to the break narrowly ahead.

Second Half

The second half started less than ideally as we were caught cold by another booming shot from the same Holly Lane player, this time scoring from inside his own half almost straight from the kickoff. As has become the norm this season though, the boys didn’t let their heads drop and really began to enjoy the best of the possession. Jude N came on at the back and put in some solid tackles and passed out really well from defence, while James in his new position up front really looked the part making some selfless runs to give others space, and putting the defenders under lots of pressure forcing some errors at last, unlucky on a couple of occasions not to get the goal he deserved. Our passing has improved consistently week to week as a team and today was no exception with some lovely interplay throughout from all players, even on the soft pitch. Eventually we started to get reward for the great team effort and the momentum really began to turn in Colron’s favour as we ran away with the game in the second half. Again the terrible twosome were among the goals, Archie adding 4 more to his early strike (notably one lovely left-footed finish from the angle of the area) whilst Ryan also completed a hat-trick with the final goal of the game, and some equally impressive celebrations from both! All in all a complete team performance with everyone contributing superbly and the continued improvement really evident, especially with 3 players being unavailable. Very well played boys!
