Home fixture on a super hot day against strong Sutton Coldfield 4ths who had won last 3 games was always going to be tough ask for our young side. Sutton won the toss made the obvious choice of batting first.

First and second change of bowlers also took wickets at regular intervals with Ryan Delport taking 1 for 44 off 8 overs and Reuben Majithia with some serious pace taking 2 wickets for 29 off 6 overs. Sutton kept their run rate. Two leg spinners Roman Majithia (3 overs 20 runs) and Kian Eratne (1 for 34 off 5 overs) bowled well when Sutton were trying to increase the run rate. Yohan finished their innings with 2 for 10 runs off 9 overs with Sutton making a good score of 201 for 8 in their allocated 45 overs with help of 45 extras (31 wides, 6 no balls) which we need to work on in the coming games. Walmley boys were exhausted fielding 45 overs on a super hot day (35 overs with 10 men).
Arjun Nahal and Rhys Oakley opened batting for Walmley and wickets started to fall immediately leaving Walmley 19 for 3. Heat was causing mayhem at the ground with Jaipreet was struggling to stand when he fell turning for a second run and had to retire not out to get some rest under shade. Ryan Delport and Yohan put a 21 run partnership and Kian with Yohan another partnership of 24. At this stage Walmley were struggling with score 5 down for 64 run.
Jaipreet came back with a runner (Arjun) and played a courageous innings and put up a magnificent partnership of 97 with Yohan (highest 6th wicket partnership in our league). Yohan kept attacking with Darryl holding other end and Yohan got caught at the boundary for 115 off 88 balls with Walmley needing 16 runs with just one wicket in hand.
Then came the super partnership with Dipesh with a runner (Reuben) and Darryl with Dipesh scoring winning runs with a lovely pull shot standing on one foot to the boundary made the whole team jump in joy and making dads feel like kids with excitement.
A fantastic team effort with lots of drama, courage, twists and turns, injuries, runners and the heat to add to the mix. Lots of positives to take from this game and never to doubt !
