Report: Aditya Muthukumar
A hot Friday evening at the Penns Lane “Douglas” Sports Ground saw over 300 runs scored and Highcroft and Great Barr CC prevailed with some big hitting after a fabulous 152 was put on the board. Sebastian Jones and Tom Hanlon retired post a solid partnership before Josh Chagar got a quickfire 23. Highcroft then chased it down on a good batting deck within 14 overs with their openers Noor Ali and Haider Bashir starring with 34* and 30* respectively.
Michael Shackleford and Billy Bojan walked out to bat and soon Billy was bowled for 2. Michael scored two 4s in his innings of 12. Sebastian and Tom, who is currently going through a really good run of form for Walmley and school, enjoyed themselves in the middle with both retiring soon after the 10-over drinks break after scoring 32 and 33. Josh C then scored 23 off just an astonishing 11 balls – a strike rate of OVER 200! There was no significant contribution from there as Walmley finished on 152.Toby Stokes was struck on his arm with a bruise occuring making him retire hurt. But in the last over, the braveheart walked out for the last few balls, much to the applause by both teams. In the end, he was unfortunately run out.
Highcroft got off to an amazing start with openers Noor Ali and Haider Bashir scoring 34 and 30 respectively. Ali’s knock was particularly impressive as he scored it off just 15 balls with three 4s and two 6s. Sahil was then run out by keeper Sebastian after making 17 off 6 balls. Josh then had Eesa Shahzad lbw but that didn’t prevent our opposition from winning by 8 wickets.
Walmley U13B end the month with a game at Whittington CC, against whom we won earlier this season, at home tomorrow before revisiting this league on Wednesday against Four Oaks Saints CC.
Summary: Walmley CC 152 all out (Tom Hanlon 33, Sebastian Jones 32, Eesa Shahzad 2-14) lose to Highcroft and Great Barr CC 153-2( Noor Ali 34*, Haider Bashir 30*, Josh Chagar 1-4)
