4ths played “away” at Douglas to Wishaw 3rds on a very dry and cracked wicket. Losing the toss we were put into bat first and straight away Ryan van Wyke (24) got us off to a good start. Our number 3, David Clough, played phenomenal innings for a personal best of 112. Some splendid batting from the youngster with some incredible shots and great running between the stumps. Amaan Nasar also making a brilliant quick fire contribution of 58 that helped us get to our total of 251 off 45 overs! A well above par score at this ground especially given the wicket.
We got off to a good start with the ball with myself getting both the openers out with the opening spell and Rob Ellis (1 for 30) sending one of the top order batsmen back. Then on came Sam Lumb who bowled brilliantly for his 2 for 22, putting the batsmen under immense pressure. Wishaw then began for form a solid 6th wicket partnership which lasted a lengthy amount of time until Scott Pepper (3 for 30) came through with a brilliant spell of bowling to knock down their middle order.
With Masud Ahmed bowling superbly at the death and taking the 9th wicket, we were just 1 wicket away from beating Wishaw twice in a row. However, their number 10 and 11 did really well to protect their wicket and we fell 1 wicket short of victory.
We took to the field on a very hot day but the energy shown from the lads in the field was incredible. Some very good standards both in body language and fielding shown by each individual throughout the game and with these 18 points and the performances from the boys these last few games, Walmley 4ths have climbed from 8th position to 4th in the league. Very proud of the youngsters and their achievements so far.
