Match Abandoned Due to Slippy AstroTurf

By Mo Salman, captain

Saturday 3rd August

Walmley 4ths played away to Weoley Hill on an AstroTurf track. We lost the toss and we were put into bat and managed to get off to a decent start thanks to Umair Choudhry’s 31. After a couple of wickets fell, a stable partnership of 80+ formed between myself (66) and Harry Wyatt (22) before the tail came in to get us some quick fire runs which included some quality hitting from Masud Ahmed (23), Viren Malhi (18), Alex Carey, and Henry Nevitt. This took our total up 224 off our 45 overs which seemed like a par score.

Myself and Viren opened the bowling and with the help of some incredible fielding, applied a lot of pressure on the batsmen as they were struggling to go 2-3 runs an over. However, they were also not giving their wickets away until on came Masud Ahmed and rattled the stumps taking 2 quick wickets and sending back both the openers. They were 66 for 2 after 21 overs before the rain poured down and stopped play. After some lengthy time waiting it was clear that the Astro would be too dangerous and slippery to play on until it was fully dry, therefore the game was stopped and Walmley were awarded a winning draw with 14 points.

Great game of cricket played by the lads with some superb fielding by all players.
