Sunday 7th April 2019
Walmley Sunday 1sts travelled to Aldridge to play the first game of the year. Losing the toss we were asked to bowl first with a young attack and Perry Henderson the only seam bowler.
We struck early with the first ball of the Walmley season, as Henderson bowled their opener. Things were slow going from then on for the batting side with Shailan Srikanthan bowling a great spell. This was followed up by Kiefer Wood and Farhan Choudhry bowling tight, giving nothing away. Aldridge slowly made their way to 100. Sinel Gunarathne and Alex Carey then came on at which point the opposition looked to attack more. With some runs coming late on they made it to 167.
Unfortunately the batters couldn’t back up the tight bowling display and with some questionable shots and, let’s call it, rusty batting we slumped. That was until Choudhry (41) and Srikanthan put a partnership together to get us towards a respectable effort but with an incredible 6 ducks we were going to struggle and wound up 50 shy.
We’ll move on to next week and hope the batters turn up!
