Match Report: Marston Green 2nds vs Saturday 4ths

Date: Saturday 25th May 2019
Type: Warwickshire County Cricket League Division 11 West
Report: Mo Salman

The 4ths played away to Marston Green 2nds. Winning the toss and batting first we got off to a flying start with a run rate of almost 7 an over within the first 10. Umair Choudhry (41) and Kapil Jaitly (57) set up a good base at the start of the innings.

However, after being 117-2, our middle order began to crumble as a result of some good bowling by the opposition until Kaash Patel entered the crease and played a very sensible and mature innings for his 71 not out. A Great knock from him and with 25 extras given away, we ended our innings on 229-9.

Just like our innings, Marston Green also got off to a flying start as they came out and took full advantage of the short boundaries. Jay Martin bowling really well (2 for 39) and keeping the pressure on the opposition. We then introduced Alex Carey (2 for 47) and Arjun Bala (1 for 45) who bowled brilliantly to take some wickets with the help of some good catches. However, they were pretty consistent with their run rate and we were just a few runs short as they managed to chase down our total in the 43rd over with 4 wickets to spare.

Still some work to be done on the field but overall a good performance by the team, especially Kaash Patel who stepped up as keeper today and did a phenomenal job including a catch off Alex Carey’s bowling. Great leadership and maturity shown throughout the game by him.
