Match Date: Saturday 11th May
Type: Warwickshire County Cricket League Premier Division
Location: John Findlay Memorial Ground
Report: Michael Waugh, captain
The first XI took on Solihull Municipal this week. With it being a very wet week it was looking like the game could have been in the balance but thanks to all of the hard work of groundsman Onkar and the players we managed get the game on to be 33 overs a side.
Walmley were asked to bat first and unfortunately lost an early wicket. From here we had a good partnership between Roshan Bhalaji and Mo Sheikh. Sheikh (23) fell and another partnership formed but unfortunately just as the two batsmen were going to step on the gas Sammy Bhatti (27) fell. A quick fire 28 from Michael Waugh and and Roshan reaching his second 50 of the season brought us to 147-4 off our 33 overs.
The bowling once again got off to a good start with Recordo Gordon and Fahim Jan taking 3 wickets between them early and putting Solihull on the back foot. From here Solihull didn’t put together a partnership that really worried Walmley and tight bowling from Jamie hall (7-3-26-1) and Sheiky (7-2-11-2) meant that Walmley were loooking for wickets to win the game. Solihull’s batsmen stood strong though and finished 99-8 in reply. Fahim finishing with figures of 9-1-24-3 and Recordo 9-2-18-2, another 2 brilliant bowling performances from the openers. This meant Walmley took the winning draw and 17 points.
