Match Date: Saturday 20th April
Type: Warwickshire County Cricket League
Location: John Findlay Memorial Ground
Report: Michael Waugh, captain Saturday 1sts
The first XI started off the league campaign at home to Streetly. Losing the toss we were asked to bat first and got off to a good start with the openers putting on 64. We then lost both openers and this brought together Roshan Balaji and Sammy Bhatti. The two batsmen put on a partnership of 148. Roshan making 59, a very mature knock from a young batsmen on his first opportunity at number three. Sammy making 108, another classy knock from our overseas player. Some late runs from Michael Waugh (30*) and Jon Newis (15) in the last few overs got us to a total of 305-7.
The bowling innings got off to a great start as Recordo Gordon took two early wickets. Fahim Jan then followed this up taking regular wickets of his own. Both opening spells blew Streetly away with Recordo ending up with figures of 6-22-3 and Fahim Jan with brilliant figures of 9.2-35-6, an outstanding spell. The final wicket to fall was a run out from a direct hit from Peter Shackleford which meant Streetly were all out for 76. A brilliant performance from the 1st XI and a great start to the campaign.
