The 2nd XI hosted Sheldon Marlborough CC first XI at a windy Eldon Drive on Saturday. After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Carl Griffin and Callum Herron made a positive start before Callum (12) was caught behind off a rising delivery. Tom Pyke was out shortly after having one keep a little low and we kept losing wickets. Another steady partnership between Dan Bromley (16) and Carl (27) before Carl fell leaving us 51-3. We lost a couple more wickets leaving us 64-5. Ian Schmid entered the crease and put together a steady partnership with Dan Bromley before he fell. Clark Wells joined Schmid at the crease and together they put on a superb partnership of 89 before Schmid fell for 42 caught. Clark continued to play positively until falling for a well made 41. We then lost our remaining 3 wickets for 11 runs and a total of 172. A total we felt was competitive. This proved to be more than competitive as Ian Schmid (9-42-3) removed the top order leaving Sheldon 28-3. A decent partnership between the numbers 4 and 5 got them back in the game. Time to turn to spin which proved to be successful. Callum Herron (6-27-2) bowled well alongside a superb spell from Kiefer woods (6-17-4) leaving Sheldon 115-8. A run out from Dan Bromley came next before Kiefer wrapped up the win by 55 runs. Top of the table after two fixtures and a home game against Coventry and North Warwickshire 2nd XI next week.
