Report: Tariq Mohammed, captain Saturday 3rds
After the visitors winning the toss they elected to field first on a greenish early season wicket, their team containing a few young Worcestershire players.
Our openers John Pigott and Sinel Gunarathne showed clear concentration and selection on their technique to overcome the new ball with a steady start taking drinks at 65 for no wicket in our first 17 overs. Then the field opened up a bit and runs were flowing in at a very slow pace with Sinel Gunaratne making good (23). Yusuf Khalil went in at 3 but only managed a low score.
Tariq Mohammed jointed John Pigott and with the help of quick running and a positive mindset managed to cross 150 with John Pigott making a valuable (44).
Ethan Guinavan U14 showed great approach to his innings with a great shot selection and held a partnership with Tariq Mohammed taking to the total just near the 200 mark. Ethan batted extremely well with 18* and Tariq Mohammed (64).
Walmley finished with 201 in their 50 overs.
Earlswood started their innings with caution and care, with Perry Henderson and Lewis Hoffman showed a great bowling display with early wickets and making it harder for the batsman with tons of dot balls.
First change Callum Mulholland and Rayyan Mohammed again repeated the same line and length with creating lots of dot balls to keep the batsmen in check.
They were 67 for 3 in 29 overs with us keeping full control on the game.
Lewis Hoffman 2 for 32, Callum Mulholland 2 for 31, Tom Cleaver 1 for 18, Tariq Mohammed 2 for 7 are in the wicket column but Perry Henderson 0 for 31 in 11 overs and Rayyan Mohammed U14 0 for 9 in his 5 overs showed some great skills especially playing the higher opposition.
Unfortunately we only had them 7 down and a drawn result was inevitable with Walmley holding full control of the very hot day’s play throughout.
Earlswood finished 124 for 7 in their 50 overs.
All in all a great game, with application from the youngsters to shown their value and potential for the future.
