Match Date: Saturday 13th April
Location: Court Lane
Report: Luke Marshall, captain Saturday 4ths
Batted first on a great looking Court Lane wicket for this time of year. And our openers got us off to a flying start with us 29 runs on the board after only 3 overs. They soon fell and with regular wickets falling, the run rate dropped considerably. Saj Hussain batted for the best part of 35 overs for his top score of 40. As the overs passed it was looking increasingly likely we would bat out our overs and we finished the innings as we started with Calum Shackleford brutalising 37 off of about 13 balls. Highlight being hitting a 4 over mid on, skipper moving him back to the rope to stop the boundary and Calum smashing a 6 straight over his head the very next ball. 196 on the board at tea, solid start.
An early wicket looked to keep the momentum going but with batsmen 1&3 looking set, Masud and Southgate were introduced. After some tight bowling batsman 3 tried to take on Southgate (1-12) and was out caught at first slip to a very smart catch by Umair. This was the start of Walmley reasserting some pressure and with Masud being very economical was followed by another set of superb bowling by Shackleford and Hussain supported by some tight fielding. With the required run rate passing 9 an over Harborne began to hit out, a wicket for Scott Pepper (returning 1-13), another for Umair taking 1-13 at the death and sharp work by Ryan Delport running out the opposition captain. Dave Morley kept it interesting at the end with one over going for 13… but it did result in a wicket and was enough to see us home by 13 runs.
