Match Date: Sunday 28st April
Type: Arden Sunday Cricket League
Location: John Findlay Memorial Ground
Report: Jon Newis, captain
Sunday 1s had their first league game of the year against Earlswood, winning the toss and choosing to bat (as per the unwritten Sunday rules). We opened up strong with Atif Khalil scoring a quick 18. We didn’t slow down and the next three, Paddy Woods, Mikey Waugh and Jamie Hall all making starts to 23 and getting out, as followed by myself with 29. With the rate cruising along Kaash Patel and Max Southgate put on a stunning partnership to see us to 245, Kaash getting out last ball on 56 and Max 31*. We knew this was a good target, but with a small boundary anything is possible.
They got off to a positive start, but we never let them get away from us, and with Mikey taking the first opener on 22, we managed to keep taking wickets. However the number 2, Lal was still scoring freely. Everyone chipped in to bowl well with Sinel Gunarathne taking their number 3 and Max picking up 2 in a good tight bowling spell for us. Hiru Miah bowled a fantastic 8 overs and never let the batters get on top, picking up his wicket in the later overs. Lal battled his way to 106 and was looking like the man to take them to the line but step up Jamie Hall bowling the last 5 overs with the short boundary for only 11 runs and picking up 2 wickets in the process, led to, in the end, a comfortable win with Earlswood finishing on 192. Another great Sunday with plenty of laughs and some good cricket. Roll on next week with hopefully some better weather!
