Match Date: Sunday 14th April 2019
Report: Jon Newis, captain Sunday 1sts
We played our second Sunday 1sts friendly of the season against Olton and West Warks, fielding a very young side with under 17 Kaash being the 4th oldest. Winning the toss and choosing to bat first we lost an early wicket but a fantastic partnership from Callum Herron and Kaash Patel saw us recover and score runs at a good rate. When the partnership was finally broken we were on 122 with Patel out for 47. Dinuk de Silva helped with another 19 and Callum with a fantastic 91 seeing us into a strong position. We didn’t quite make our good start into as many as we should have, finishing on 233, with me scoring 27 and Perry 15 in the later overs.
On to the bowling. Clark Wells started well taking their left handed batsman early and with Shailan Srikanthan bowling tight they didn’t get away. The right start was carried on by de Silva and Farhan Choudhry. They were scoring about the required run rate throughout although losing wickets at key times for us. They scored a few big overs attacking the short boundary and were up to the rate however up stepped Perry Henderson taking 5 in the last 10 overs. We ended up winning by 9 runs! A fantastic outing for the boys and some really good cricket from such a young team!
