Match Report: Wilnecote 2nds vs Saturday 5ths West

Match Date: Saturday 4th May
Type: Warwickshire County Cricket League Division 13 West
Location: Wilnecote

Walmley travelled to Tamworth to play Wilnecote on their main ground. A covered pitch but slightly damp on top after overnight rain and dew, meant winning the toss could be important – Wilnecote won and put Walmley in to bat.

A solid start from Luke Gillam (22) and Asif Khan (15) created a platform but just as both had started to settle, Walmley lost both quickly. Debutant Ryan van Wyk (39) joined captain Saj Hussain at the crease and they proceeded to build a decent partnership and at drinks were 100-2 looking at setting a target of 200+. However just after drinks Walmley started their mini collapse, Ryan and Saj out in quick succession, and but for a rapid fire 30 from Calum Shackleford the eventual 143 all out could have been worse.

In response Walmley bowled well, Ollie Williams getting the first wicket and supported by Henry Nevitt getting a wicket too. Another debutant Hamza Swaleh then got two wickets (2-17) whilst tight bowling from Max Southgate was curtailed through injury after just 3 overs. At 70-4 Walmley smelled a chance at victory before Wilnecote built a 60 run partnership to put the game to bed, there was still time for another wicket courtesy of Andi Walters but the hosts ran out victorious 144-5…
