After 2 frustrating cancellations in 2 weeks due to the oppositions not managing to assemble an XI, the Walmley U15Bs finally got on the park on Monday as they faced off Streetly CC away.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Streetly got off to a rather slow start, having scored 11 after 5 overs. Our left arm leggie Amy Carey picked up the first wicket courtesy a sharp stumping by captain Michael Shackleford. From there on, except the occasional boundary and misfield, Walmley kept the run rate down; just 4.80 at the end of the 16 overs. A few good shots gave Streetly some momentum as Sam Y retired at 32 in a knock containing 5 boundaries. Adi knocked over the bails in the 19th as Streetly folded for just 107, a below-par total despite the miserable weather: cold, wet and windy (we did see a rainbow however! Definitely made up for it.)
Walmley lost Will Priddey early but that paved the way for Michael to partner Reiss Chagar as they both dealt in boundaries. Reiss hit 4 fours and a six in a big 23 run 4th over, retiring on 30 off 15, an amazing strike rate of 200! Captain Michael went a step further, making 37 off 18, including 2 sixes. Ben Carruthers also smashed a four and a six before there was a mini-collapse. However, Aqsa Akhtar and Amy Carey got the job done as Walmley won with a convincing 8.3 overs to spare.
The U15Bs play Tamworth CC tomorrow (Thursday 13 May 2021) in a bid to get a hat trick of wins and then Smethwick on Tuesday.
Streetly U15 107-2 (Sam Y 32, Arran X 30, Adi Muthukumar 1-11) lose to Walmley U15B 108-5 (Michael Shackleford 37, Reiss Chagar 30, George R 2-8) by 5 wickets
