Ryan Delport’s all-round performance backed up by a strong team effort wins it for 3rds

Walmley travelled to Solihull to face Old Edwardian 2nds on a rather warm day following 3 consecutive defeats to strong oppositions. Opposition skipper won the toss and decided to bat with admitting it would be a difficult early afternoon to field with the heat. 


Sam Lumb (7 overs, 1 wicket for 34 runs) and Rob Eliis opened bowing for Walmley and consistantly bowled good lines and lengths resulting the fall of first wicket to Rob Ellis with a beautiful in-ducker in the 2nd over of the game. This followed up with a regulation catch to George off the bowling of Sam Lumb leaving Old Edwardians 2 down with 20 runs on the board. 

Their No2 and 4 batters built a healthy partnership of 56 runs for the 3rd wicket before Yohan took a catch at slips off Corey (6 overs, 1 wicket for 15 runs) who bowled a lovely delivery angling across the right hand batsman. Yohan took a wicket in the very next over leaving Old Edwardians 93 for 4 at the drinks break. 
Luke Marshall (7 overs, 2 wickets for 33 runs) and Ryan Delport (7 overs, 2 wickets for 31 runs) kept bothering wickets column taking 2 wickets each and Ryan taking both his wickets in the same over. Rob Ellis finished their innings with 2 more wickets to his tally with an impressive bowling figure of 7.4 overs, 1 maiden, 3 wickets for 16. 

Walmley were set a target of 171.

Luke (31) and Yashveer (8) opened batting for Walmley and made a steady 47 run partnership for the first wicket. Regular wickets left Walmley somewhat bothered with 5 down for 93 and required run rate started increasing. Yohan (19) and George (13) added quick fire 30 runs but both fell when score was 123 leaving 3 wickets to to get further 48 runs. in-came big hitting Ryan Delport who hates wearing thigh pads, took the game on to them with some lovely attacking shots including 4 boundaries and saw the game through with 6.5 overs to spare. Corey played a sensible inning with 11 runs building a match winning 43 run partnership with Ryan.
