Prince Of Wales Ground

Warwickshire Youth Cricket U13 League (Group 2)
By Aditya Muthukumar, U13B
A wonderful atmosphere was created at the Prince Of Wales Ground on Tamworth Road as we witnessed a fabulous match unfold before our eyes. Four Oaks Saints CC got a below-par 106 on a good batting deck and smal boundaries but some outstanding bowling by Will Hume, the son of their coach meant that Four Oaks were able to restrict Walmley to just 85.
Walmley got the best start they could have wished for with the scoreboard reading 1-2 after 2 overs. The first one was due to a quite remarkable and stunning piece of fielding by Ben Carruthers. The non-striker who hadn’t faced a ball yet was completing a single when Ben effected a direct hit at great pace at the striker’s end. Adi Muthukumar then took the wicket of Spike in his very first over. Soon after, Rohit Jakhu took off, smashing seven 4s in a brutal 30 off 17 balls before retiring in accordance with the league rules. Matt Jones then departed for 5 soon followed by Isa Mahmood. Jacob Payne was caught by Billy Bojan off Toby Stokes’ bowling after a well-compiled 27. Our opposition ended up on 106-6 after their allotted 20 overs.
Tom Hanlon, opening the batting with Billy Bojan, was dismissed by a good ball early on. A slow yet steady stand was then put together by Will Priddey and Billy. Will then retired for 31, bringing skipper Michael Shackleford to the crease. Josh Chagar got out for 10 while Zeb was given lbw for 2. Will Hume then bowled the over which, in my opinion, turned the tables around. The 17th over saw 2 wickets in 2 balls with the 2 victims being Reuben Majithia and Ben. Adi kept out the hat trick ball but that didn’t stop Will’s wicket taking spree as he got the massive breakthrough on Michael to put Walmley in trouble. Spike Whitehouse then had Adi lbw to wrap up a fantastic evening of cricket. The win against Walmley sparked a club tradition as our opposition celebrated by singing a song.
This match had another aspect to it as many school friends faced each other with seven of the boys attending one school!
On Sunday Walmley U13B contested against Draycott and Hanbury CC in a bid to win against them again and then they will play Four Oaks again on Wednesday, Handsworth on Friday and Trentside on Sunday in our 2nd match against them this year. (See match report from first match) A busy week ahead!
Summary: Four Oaks Saints 106-6 (Rohit Jakhu 30, Jacob Payne 27, Toby Stokes 2-16) win against Walmley CC 85 all out William Priddey 31, Will Hume 5-4, Adam Wilkinson 1-0)
