The sun was beaming down at the Court on Saturday 8th August, and the positive mood only improved when the toss was won and Walmley decided to have a bat. An excellent opening partnership of 70 from Arman Dubb (18) and James Bristow (48) set the foundations for the innings. More composed performances from the middle order of Ethan Guinivan (26), Yousuf Akbar (17) and Mo Salman (38) allowed us to reach a competitive total of 202 all out, a score that could, and should, have been better given Streetly’s interesting bowling attack.
Streetly were quick out of the blocks and raced to 78-2 off 13 overs, with the wickets falling to Charlie Yeates (1-25) and Duncan Waugh (1-42). Just like last week, Amarni Anwar was thrown the ball hoping to change the state of play, and boy he did not disappoint. 3 wickets in his first over completely changed the course of the game, and momentum swung back in Walmley’s favour. Amarni finishing with great figures of 3-14. Their opener reached 70 before he was excellently stumped by Ethan Guinivan off the bowling of the skipper Callum Mulholland (3-38). Regular wickets continued to fall for Streetly as intense pressure was applied in the field and by the bowlers. Devin Fernando (1-29) and Mo Salman (1-11) were able to round off the innings and bowl Streetly out for 170. Superb performance in the field with great catches from Bristow, Dubb and Akbar.
First league victory of season and a well deserved one for the effort that has gone into the first few games. Onto Wishaw next week!
