Walmley played home to Hampton & Solihull 3rds. Won the toss and batted first. Not the best of starts for Walmley having 3 of our top order batsmen getting out on ducks within the first 4 overs of the innings. Despite the unfortunate start, Jack Patel made a valiant 25 runs to get our innings going before a very stable partnership of 65 between Jay Martin (30) and myself (94) got us back on track and we soon found ourselves on 140 for 6. Another strong partnership of 50 between Arjun Bala (25) and myself got us to 190 in the 35th over. With a few more runs coming in from our last 3, we ended our innings at 217 all out after the 43rd.
Considering we were on 11 for 3 after the 4th over, the players did really well to play a sensible, mature game and bounce back to get us the total we finished with.
Their batsmen got off to a very steady start, rotating the strike well, played a few good strokes before Rob Ellis (3 for 29) toppled their top order with some smart bowling and some help from Sam Lumb (1 for 25). Fielding standards were really impressive at times including some incredible catches from Kapil Jaitly, Amaan Nasar, Arman Dubb and Ryan Delport but a small amount of poor fielding during their innings helped them keep the scoreboard ticking during the middle of their innings despite some good bowling from Arjun Bala (2 for 51) and Alex Carey (1 for 27) to take 3 wickets between them. Despite Jay Martin (1 for 29) and I (1 for 17) taking a wicket each towards the end of the innings, we still managed to fall 1 wicket short for the win, and ended with a winning draw.
A good performance from the team overall, unfortunately just failing to give that extra push for the full win.
