Walmley’s under 11s squad have had another successful week and have shown the depth their squad has.
With both a Burton League pairs fixture and a Birmingham Premier league fixture to be played on the same day 19 players took to the field to compete on Monday 9th May.
Burton League Pairs at Uttoxter
The Burton league fixture away at Uttoxeter was an enthralling encounter. Batting first Uttoxeter were limited to 235-5. After a sharp run out in the field wickets from Noah on his hardball debut (2-0-7-2), Dylan I (2-0-9-1) and Akhbar (2-0-12-1) kept the game within Walmley’s grasp.
Some disciplined batting from all players limited Uttoxeter to only 4 wickets, with important knocks from Dylan B (18 runs), Dylan I (9 runs) and Seb (7 runs) seeing Walmley over the line by just 3 runs.
Phone calls were frequently exchanged between one game and the other for progress updates, as another U11 clash was taking place at Olton and West Warwicks in the Birmingham Premier League.
Olton and West Warwicks in Birmingham Premier League
Having won the toss Walmley elected to bat first. At 36-3 after the 6th over Walmley looked to steady the ship following an incredibly unlucky dismissal of Ariyan (11 from 10). A stellar innings from Kanav (29 from 17 balls) supported by Daniel (15 from 23) helped to put some runs on the board. Having lost 3 wickets in 10 balls Walmley looked less steady at 85-7 after the 13th over. In stepped George (7 from 21) and Freddie (13 from 31) who saw Walmley safely through the remaining overs to post 111-7 off 20 overs.
Having taken the field Walmley quickly asserted the themselves and quick fire wickets left Olton struggling on 49-6 after the 8th over. Plucky Olton fought back but regular wickets saw their stand end in the 17th over with debutant Thomas B wrapping up the Olton innings having posted 74 runs. Two wickets for Freddie (2-1-16-2) and Bryan (2-0-5-2) and a wicket apiece for Umer, Kanav, Daniel, Jibril and Thomas did the damage. Aarav once again demonstrated his prowess behind the poles with a catch behind, run out and conceding only 3 byes.
Through to Next Round in Burton Pairs Cup
The following evening Walmley faced Alrewas in the Burton Cup. A competition Alrewas won last year.
Having lost the toss Walmley were asked to bowl. Walmley demonstrated utter ruthlessness with incredible displays of fast bowling. None more so than Bryan who ended with figures of 2-1-1-4! Two wicket hauls for Kanav 3-0-8-2 and Daniel 3-0-13-2 as well as a wicket apiece for Manam and Umer saw Alrewas finish their pairs innings on 167-11.
Walmley responded with a mature batting display. Opening pair Manam (10 runs) and Umer (8 runs) set the tone. Second pair Aarav (17 runs) and Freddie (4 runs) kept the scorecard ticking along. Penultimate pair of Daniel (11 runs) and Kanav (12 runs) set up Ariyan (8 runs) and Bryan (13 runs including a huge six!) to complete a dominant display with Walmley posting 274-4 and progressing to the third round.
