Super Second XI at it again!

Match Date: 22nd June 2019
Type: Warwickshire County Cricket League Division 3
Location: Eldon Drive
Report: Kiefer Woods

On this particular sunny day, of which we were all thankful for due to two weeks of torrential rain, we were at home for yet another hopeful fixture against Bronze 1st XI. Having won the toss we decided to bat on what seemed to be a road. The captain and James Bristow got us off to a comfortable start and their good partnership put us in a good position until unfortunately the captain lost his wicket. But never mind, still a good start. Next in was number 3 Alex Gower who got given an LBW that seemed too high. But we pushed on. Ian Schmidt was sent in at number 4. With a flurry of boundaries and a few singles, Ian put on about 30 runs, a good cameo to help the team out. A few overs later we unfortunately lost him. Next in was one half of the Woods brothers (who currently has more ducks than his younger brother) who recently seemed to be in a run drought. After seeing himself in Paddy got going to the delight of everyone else. He put on an incredible 93 not out to help the team to a massive total. Rob (Hutchings) joined Paddy and was looking to go after the bowlers. One particular ball he plucked out of the air and over the clubhouse onto a certain Jamie Hall’s car windscreen and created a pretty impressive crack. Lewis (Hoffman) and Padraig saw us through till the end to reach a total of 304.

Going into the second innings we were very confident with our total but never underestimated the opposition. We opened with Rob Hutchings and Lewis Hoffman; both bowled very well and very tightly, especially with the wicket we were playing on. Lewis came steaming in and the first wicket fell via a cat like catch for the other half of the Woods brothers at mid-wicket. TWo overs later we had them two wickets down with thanks to a superb catch from the captain at slip off of Lewis’s bowling. Once those two were finished Clark Wells and Callum Mulholland were brought on. Callum bowled really well picking up 2 wickets. On next were the spin twins Max Southgate and Kiefer Woods. Both bowlers bowled very well to start with, not many runs conceded, and took 4 wickets between both of them at 2 wickets a piece. The first wicket to fall between the spinners was a caught and bowled from Kiefer; the next was a bowled from Max. The third wicket to fall was thanks to a brilliant grab by the wicket keeper James Bristow; And the fourth wicket to fall was an amazing diving catch from Clark Wells on the boundary. With only one wicket to get due an illness on the opposing side, the mighty Alex Gower was brought on which was a surprise to everyone even himself and he amazingly took the final wicket. We bowled them out for 171. Yet another win to the delight of the captain.

With thanks to Demi for yet another week of fabulous teas and Simon for scoring.

We now go onto another week searching for yet another win. Our next opponents are Weoley Hill away.
