This evening we were awarded Club of the Year at the Sutton Coldfield Sports Awards. We’re thrilled and would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the club in any way, however small, over the year.
From Walmley Cricket Club to Walmley Cricket and Sports Club
At the end of the 2018 cricket season, a football team joined the cricket club. In November 2019, the website was launched as Walmley Cricket and Sports Club. In January 2019 the first participants in basketball, table tennis, netball and badminton came along. Over the year we’ve had the privilege of former Malaysian badminton player Anita Singh coaching our sessions, and Paul Douglas, ex Birmingham Bullets player coaching basketball.
Not long afterwards, Walmley Darts was established with the addition of a darts team for the summer season, and another team joined for the winter season.
In Autumn 2019, Colron Football Club joined as well, and they and their parents have been a welcome addition to the club. Together we’ve started a Saturday Football School for reception and year 1 children.
The club has also opened its doors to partners who offer Silver Swans ballet, HIIT fitness, and youth fitness.
Cricket will continue with many youth teams, girls teams, six Saturday and two Sunday open age teams and senior women’s teams.
As well as the Saturday Football School introducing reception and year 1 children to football, we’ve just been chosen to be a Wildcat Centre which will enable us to build up girls’ football at the club.
Basketball is going from strength to strength and teams will be set up from those attending on a Saturday morning, and start playing competitively in the Autumn.
Now the two darts teams have found their home with us, we will be introducing junior darts training in April.
