Tough first league game for a younger side – Walmley 3rds vs Four oaks Saints 2nds- 17th April

Walmley 3rds hosted their first league game against Four oaks Saints 2nds XI. Having lost the toss, they put us in to bat on a very green wicket. With the help of a lot of swing and nip of the seam, four oaks managed to get some early wickets and had us 27-3. A strong middle order performance from Perry (46), Harry and Devin helped us put some runs back on the board and we ended up with 138 all out in the 44th over.

With not many runs on the board, it was important we got some early wickets in, and that’s exactly what Armani Anwar and Perry Henderson delivered by taking a wicket a piece early on. However, a strong unbeaten 81 runs from their opening batsman set a strong base for their run chase. This alongside a few drop catches, and 21 extras helped them chase the target by the 33rd over, despite a couple late wickets from Devin Fernando.

Overall, some good performances from the young side, but still a lot of room for improvement over the season.
