Match Date 10th July 2019
Walmley U13B v Four Oaks Saints
Warwickshire Youth Cricket Leagues – U13 League (Group 2)
By Ashley Stokes, manager
This was the second time in 7 days the teams had met. Given Four Oaks had been the victors the first-time round, Walmley was keen to beat their neighbours containing many of their school pals.
Bolstered by two County Players from the girls’ squad (Ellie Phillips and Amber Williams), stand in Captain Josh Chagar was hoping to maintain his 100% record as Captain in Michael Shackleford’s absence. Walmley won the toss and elected to bat first.
The first five batsman started well with Will Priddey (15), Ben Carruthers (27), Billy Bojan (21), and Deeyan Patel (17). Josh Chagar, for the second match in four days, carried his bat and retired on 32 runs which included two 6’s.
The team ended their innings on 138. This would have easily won them the corresponding fixture from last week, however Four Oaks were having none of it…
Stand in keeper Ben Carruthers yet again proved what an outstanding fielder he is. Two catches and a run out. The first catch, off Ed Bickley’s sharp bowling, was implausible that he could get to it and hold on to it, he did both. Three out of five wickets he had a hand in. One of which despatched the dangerous looking Rohit, restricting him to 12, this gave the team a massive boost.
Two wickets for Amber Williams followed and a rare catch for Toby Stokes off the bowling of Captain Josh Chagar, taking out Oli Williams. Four Oaks Saints finished on 132 to give Walmley the win by 6 runs!
This maintains the teams second spot in the Warwickshire league. Two more fixtures to come to secure that spot.
